Tom Ford Polo Shirts Review
Picture this: I was walking by Miami’s Design District with my sister, a personal shopper, carrying a Louis Vuitton bag from one of her clients. I knew that was the perfect moment to step into a Tom Ford store, and that’s exactly what we did.
Here’s a photo from that day.
As soon as we walked in, an impeccably dressed sales rep escorted us upstairs via elevator to a floor lined with suits costing tens of thousands. I told him I was looking for a polo shirt. He started showing me solid colored polo shirts. I explained to him that I live in an extremely hot climate, so polos are my go-to. The first thing he asked me was my Italian size or something like that. To still play pretend I told I didn’t know because all my polo shirts are custom made.
He first showed me a classic white cotton polo, that to be honest didn’t surprise me at all. The only thing that knocked my socks off was the $450 price tag. I tried the polo and it didn’t feel anything out of the ordinary. It was a normal cotton polo. I’m sure it’s good quality cotton, but paying $450 it’s just too much.
The fit was another issue. Their “Size 38” (a medium) looked horrible on me, I usually wear a slim small or XS in classic fits. Compare it to my Tommy Hilfiger polo (pictured), which fits 10x better for literally 10x less money—and it’s also 100% cotton.
But then, my story at Tom Ford actually got much better. After I was unimpressed with the white polo shirt, the sales rep went through a “special” drawer and pulled out a cashmere polo, and that my friends, was a totally different ball game. The fit was amazing, the fabric so luxurious and out of this world, and the style was simply beautiful. That polo shirt really felt like the “James Bond” experience.
The problem with my dream polo shirt was that It cost more than my whole trip to Miami(Maybe even my whole wardrobe). We’re talking around $1,500.
Are Tom Ford polo shirts worth it?
- Cotton? Hard pass.
- Cashmere/silk? Gorgeous, but absurdly priced. Only splurge if you’re really into polos and money isn’t a concern.
Why I’m writing this:
As I was writing this, I realized that a Tom Ford polo shirt is probably the “ultimate” one for someone who loves them as much as me. Two of my four birthday gifts were polo shirts. I consider the cotton ones not worth it and the cashmere and silk ones excessive, but because I’m such a huge fan of Tom Ford and how he represents American fashion(and also a James Bond fan). With that in mind I made the promise to myself that If I splurge with something when I reach the 1,000 blog posts mark(currently at 20 as of the time of writing this) then that would be a Tom Ford polo made from a luxurious fabric.
I even curated my own wishlist. The list contains affiliate links and I might earn a commission if you buy one of the polo shirts. Again I DON’T recommend you do unless it’s a small splurge for you.
