To style a men’s business casual outfit with jeans, I follow a simple formula that helps balance out the whole look.
- Tops: Wear a proper dress shirt or a solid-colored cotton polo.
- Jeans: Choose a pair of jeans that lean business casual—dark wash, no distressing, and a clean fit.
- Dress Shoes: Loafers, derbies, and Chelsea boots are your best options.
- Layering: If the temperature allows, add a layer that increases the formality of the outfit. A cardigan like the one shown in these outfits is always a safe and easy choice.

A Business Casual Capsule Wardrobe With Jeans?
I created a business casual capsule wardrobe, and writing this blog post made me realize one thing—it breaks a common business casual rule. Jeans can definitely fit the style, but you can’t wear them with just sneakers and a shirt.
You can still get all the outfit combinations since everything matches, but not all of them will qualify as business casual—especially the ones with jeans.
