Airport Outfits For Men

by Roger Saenz PUBLISHED:

Airport outfits are one of the things of this decade that I actually like a lot. Personally I try to wear an outfit that balances clean and simple pieces of clothing that are comfortable enough for a long haul flight or running to catch my flight.

In fashion there’s usually no right or wrong way of doing things and this blog post covers how I do it which it’s considered smart casual style.

How I Style An Airport Outfit

Footwear

I think when it comes to airport outfits this is probably the most important part, I usually opt for comfortable and easy to take off white leather sneakers. They are a great combination of comfort and a minimal style that’s easy to mix and match with almost all my wardrobe.

When you are traveling, shoes are the items that take more space, and that’s another important point in favor of white leather sneakers, I’ve done a whole weekend getaway of outfits with just white sneakers.

The only thing I’ll suggest is you get a decent shoe cleaner in case they get dirty.

The ones I own are from from Cole Haan and I simply couldn’t recommend them enough, they’ve been one of my best purchases so far, they have a minimal style, are super comfortable and affordable.

Here’s a link to Nordstrom rack where you can save some money on them if you decide to buy them.

Pants

I think a good pair of cotton pants are the best option for an airport, they are comfortable, look stylish and if you choose a neutral color like navy, gray or beige you can style them with different tops.

If you want to learn from my mistakes I suggest you avoid anything that’s not double digits in terms of cotton. It’s ok if an item is 97% cotton and 3% elastane or something else, but avoid anything 60% cotton and 40% polyester, at that point they are just saving money with fabrics. I made that mistake with two pairs of pants from H&M.

The 100% cotton navy pants that you’ll see in many of the outfits are my best pair and I simply love them. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find the brand again, I bought them at a local retail store and they are from a brand called Manhattan.

I recently found out that Banana Republic is selling 100% cotton pants. I’m planning on buying a couple of pairs soon. You can check them out here.

Shirts

This is where you can play a little bit more. Hopefully,  you’ll wear them only once and if you included a versatile pair of pants and white sneakers there’s a really wide range of options when it comes to tops that would work. I’m actually having a hard time thinking what wouldn’t work.

Jackets

You need at least one jacket to keep you comfortable and the stylish part will come from the type of jacket you choose. Personally, I go for a navy blazer because it’s an item that’s comfortable, stylish and I can style it with a wide range of items.

After reading about how I style this outfits, let’s get to the outfits you are here for.

Airport Outfit Ideas

Look 1: Miami Airport Outfit

This is a quick picture I took at the Miami airport bathroom. I styled my 100% cotton navy pants, a beige polo from US polo and my beloved Cole Haan sneakers.

As I was writing this I realized the whole outfit is 100% cotton, and that’s the reason I was so comfortable during the whole flight and layover.

Look 2: Dark Neutrals Airport Outfit

Young man in a navy polo and gray pants walks confidently on a sunny street. Mountains and a vibrant blue sky form the backdrop.

A navy polo shirt is a great option if you need to use one shirt again during your trip. It’s versatile and there’s many ways to style it. The gray pants are also an amazing option for the trip. Just learn from my polyester mistake.

Both the polo and pants are from H&M. I do recommend the polo shirt is 100% cotton, but probably not the best quality cotton.

Look 3: Light Blue Polo Shirt Outfit

Young man in casual attire stands beside vibrant pink flowers and a path marked with yellow posts. The scene conveys a calm, sunny afternoon.

The only thing we are changing from the last outfit are is the navy polo shirt for a light blue one. It’s a great neutral color that you can use in many of your outfits. We’re also adding a navy cardigan that you can easily take off in case it’s too hot.

The polo shirt is from Boss and it’s made of 100% cotton.

Look 4: Red Polo Shirt Outfit

A person walks down a sunlit street wearing a red polo shirt, gray pants, and white sneakers. They have short hair and sunglasses, exuding confidence.

Red is not a common color in menswear, but what this airport outfit shows it’s how my idea of using neutral shoes and pants can help you use almost anything as a top and it looks good. The red polo shirt is made of 100% cotton and it’s comfortable and stylish.

This outfit also shows how versatile a pair of gray pants are.

Look 5: Red Polo Shirt and Navy Pants

A man sitting at a bus station with a smart casual outfit wearing a red polo shirt, navy pants, and white sneakers.

Fun Fact: I’m actually writing this blog post while wearing this pants and sneakers on a trip.

At the beginning of the blog post I talked about this 100% cotton pants and hopefully I’ll be able to find another pair that’s as good as this one again.

Look 6: Summer Airport Outfit

A man in a navy polo and beige pants stands on a shaded brick path, surrounded by lush greenery, near a blue building and tree, looking thoughtful.

Now let’s start talking about beige pants, they are another versatile piece that are ideal for trips where you may be wearing the same pants multiple times. The ones I have are from H&M and they are made of too much polyester, but for some reason they are more comfortable than the gray ones, if I have to decide between this pair and a 100% cotton one, I’ll go for the second option, however; I have to say this pair is good enough for the price. That’s why I’m adding a link to them, in case you are on a tight budget.

Look 7: Knit Polo Airport Outfit

Young man in smart-casual attire stands on a palm-lined street. He wears a navy sweater, gray pants, and white sneakers, looking thoughtful.

Another fun fact: I’m wearing this shirt as a top while writing this.

If you are able to get your hands on gray pants made of a comfortable fabric then you can add the knit polo from H&M and you’ll have an effortless outfit that looks good thanks to the rib knit pattern of the shirt.

Look 8: Summer Sweater Polo Outfit

The sweater polo shirt from H&M is an item I like a lot, I can style it in many ways thanks to the color of the shirt and the pattern really helps elevate any outfit.

Look 12: Smart Casual

A man in sunglasses walks confidently on a sunny street, wearing a light blue polo, navy pants, and white sneakers. A tropical tree and house are in the background.

This outfit is a variation of the men’s business casual uniform of a light blue long-sleeve oxford shirt for something more comfortable for the hottest summer days.

Things to keep in mind:

  • I’m making the pieces of the airport outfits work for the whole trip not just for the airport.
  • I’m prioritizing comfort and fabrics, you never know what can happen at the airport.
