Red Polo Shirt Outfit Ideas
I don’t wear red polo shirts often—just occasionally or for special events, like my birthdays in 2024 and 2025 (see photos at the end). Red is a memorable color, so to avoid looking like a walking photo op, I like to mix and match it in creative ways, as you’ll see in this post.
The red polo featured here is a 100% cotton shirt from Nautica, in a shade they call “Nautica Red.”.
I’ll walk you through each outfit, sharing a bit of the backstory and highlights from my early-morning photoshoot in my hometown’s downtown area.
And like I say now: Let’s start with the outfit ideas you clicked on this blog post for.
Disclaimer: After all the outfits, I included links to the items I used to style the polo, if you decide to buy any of the items I might earn a small commission that helps support my work.
Outfit 1: Red Polo Shirt and Jeans

A well-fitting, solid-color polo shirt can work wonders when paired with quality jeans and loafers. If you’re combining jeans, loafers, and a polo, I recommend opting for dark indigo denim or something similar.
I’m a big fan of these loafers, you’ll see them featured throughout this post and in others. They’re from Cole Haan. While they were a bit pricey for me, the quality, style, and comfort are top-notch.
Fun Fact: This is one of my best photos to date, taken precisely at 6:09 a.m. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. to get ready and make the most of the golden hour for this shoot.
Outfit 2: Summer Office Outfit

Wearing a red polo to the office is a bit unconventional, so reserve it for casual days. The polo is breathable, and the khaki pants from H&M (link at the end) reflect light, keeping you cool and comfortable.
I’ve paired them with tan loafers to tone down the rest of the outfit.
Fun Fact: If you don’t speak Spanish, the sign in the photo reads “Parking Allowed.”
Outfit 3: Smart Casual Red Polo Outfit

Swap the loafers for white sneakers, and you get an outfit that’s both vibrant and comfortable enough for all-day wear. The white sneakers I’m wearing are from Cole Haan, and I use them almost daily. You’ll see them in other outfits as well.
Outfit 4: Loafers Polo Shirt Outfit

Revisiting Outfit 1, you’ll notice that changing the loafers and belt significantly changes the overall look. I’m using the same pair of Old Navy jeans, which I highly recommend. They embody what we call the three B’s: bueno (good), bonito (nice), and barato (affordable).
Fun Fact: There’s a TikTok video of me making a funny mistake while taking this picture.
Outfit 5: Gray Trousers Outfit

Every man’s wardrobe should include a pair of essential gray trousers. Mine are cropped ones from H&M. I recommend this pair if you’re planning to wear them with sneakers, but perhaps not with loafers.
Outfit 6: Bad Outfit

I’m including this outfit to illustrate that red can be a challenging color to work with. Most of my clothing is in neutral tones, but the combination here—with just two neutral colors and red—didn’t work out well.
Outfit 7: Navy Pants Polo Outfit

No, the pants aren’t black—they’re navy. By simply reversing the belt (it’s the same one from the previous outfit) and changing the color of the loafers, the overall outfit becomes more cohesive and visually appealing.
Outfit 8: Commuter Outfit

The only change from the previous outfit is the shoes, which makes the overall look more comfortable. The navy pants are from a brand called Manhattan. I purchased them at a local retail store in my hometown and haven’t been able to find them online. If you have any information about them, please let me know.
Fun Fact: I’ve been wanting to take pictures at a bus stop for a while, and I finally did—though I’m not entirely sure why.
Outfit 9: Birthday Outfit

Remember what I told you at the start of the blog about wearing this red for a special occasion, well my birthday dinner was one of those rare occasions where I want to stand out and red is a perfect color for that. I decided to mute the rest of the outfit by mixing the red polo shirt with black and avoiding too much color.

TL;DR
Red is a bold color. Unless you’re opting for burgundy, it’s best to keep the rest of your outfit muted to let the red stand out and avoid color clashes. Refer to Outfit 6 for an example of a combination that didn’t work well.
