It happens to all of us — every time there’s a special event, we don’t know what to wear. Sometimes we even go out and buy new clothes just for that occasion. To help you with that, here are 11 outfits for men I’ve worn this year for 11 specific occasions.

11 Men’s Outfits By Occasion

They’re listed in no particular order, and depending on the weather, you can adjust them by adding or removing layers.

Fancy Dinner

For a fancy dinner, you’ll need proper dress shoes and a button-up shirt. If it’s cold, you can add a wool overcoat to your winter outfit.

Generally, for any evening event, you should consider darker colors first — like gray, navy, or black. I just happen to like how white looks on me.

I decided to wear jeans with this outfit, but the look feels perfectly balanced by the rest of the pieces.

Coffee Date

It’s nice to keep a brown or tonal color palette for the coffee shop, and this outfit is a perfect example of that when it’s cold outside.

For a coffee shop, a look that’s clean and put-together yet still casual is key. I’m wearing jeans and sneakers, but everything looks cohesive with the cable-knit sweater and jacket.

Church Outfit

Feel free to skip this one if you’re not religious.

Church is a big part of my life, and as someone who hasn’t missed a single Sunday Mass this year, I’m always looking for a new outfit to wear each week.

For church, you want to keep it simple but formal — a white or blue Oxford shirt paired with trousers and dress shoes or minimal sneakers.

And yes, I do take off the sunglasses before going into the church.

Brunch

Similar to the coffee date in terms of colors, but a more formal occasion.

Stick to a color palette of brown, beige, and olive green.

For brunch, a pair of dress shoes is ideal, but you can also get away with minimal sneakers. You can also opt for more casual dress shoes like suede loafers or boots.

Job Interview

For a job interview, the bare minimum is a proper button-down dress shirt, dark trousers, and dress shoes.

I’ll be interviewing for a job soon, and this is the exact outfit I’m planning to wear.

Running Errands

If you need a quick outfit that still looks put-together for winter, a gray crewneck sweater, medium-wash jeans, white sneakers, and a navy overcoat are a great option.

The look is cohesive in terms of color, warm, and comfortable enough to walk around the city in sneakers — as long as it’s not snowing or icy.

You can keep four or five of these smart casual outfits ready to go since they’re the ones you’ll have the least time to think about.

Classy Summer Outfit

Most guys struggle to put together an outfit for extreme summer heat because you only have one layer to work with.

I often see online recommendations for layering in summer, but as someone who lives in a tropical rainforest climate (San Pedro Sula), I know that doesn’t work when it’s 96°F (36°C) with humidity above 80%.

You only need one layer, and I highly suggest choosing something made from 100% natural fibers like cotton or linen, then pairing it with shoes that make a statement.

My two hacks for staying stylish during extreme summer days are: first, wear a nice pair of cotton trousers — you’ll be more comfortable and better dressed than most guys out there. Second, wear your nicest pair of shoes, since you probably won’t be walking much when the thermometer hits 100°F.

Birthday Outfit

When it’s my birthday, it’s my time to wear the boldest colors in my wardrobe.

Red is the perfect color to let everyone know it’s my birthday — without needing a hat or anything like that.

I kept the rest of the outfit toned down with a pair of black pants and loafers.

Airport Outfit

When it comes to the airport, comfort is everything — but we can’t forget about style and looking put-together.

My recommendation is to wear a proper pair of trousers in a dark color to add formality to the look, and pair them with minimal leather sneakers. From there, you can wear almost any top you like — just try to stick to neutral colors.

A pair of navy trousers is my Swiss Army knife for combining comfort and style. They can elevate a simple look like this one, where I’m wearing a solid-colored polo shirt and white sneakers.

Beach Outfit

The beach is the best place to wear everything linen.

I live about 45 minutes from the beach and barely go, but a nice pair of swim shorts or linen pants paired with a linen or textured shirt — like the one I’m wearing — in a breathable fabric is all you need.

Add a pair of sunglasses and some nice sandals to finish the look.

Hanging Out With Friends
